We will duscuss using Photoshop to prepare the image for printing and different types of printers, ink and papers.
Learn how to transform your photography into fine art.
Our debut workshop in Seabrook (March 9-11, 2007) was a smashing success. The 2nd annual workshop was held March 1-2, 2008.
This workshop will combine location photography of nature, water birds, marine and coastal subjects with Photoshop instruction for creating exhibition-quality fine art digital prints.
The workshop will be 80% instruction in the field and 20% classroom instruction. The field portion will feature what Seabrook, as a photographer’s destination, has to offer including a charter boat ride on the Windsong, a 5 star sailing vessel, www.windsong-charters.com. The classroom portion will give the participants a wealth of information on how to take the image that they captured on film or digital and produce fine prints worthy of framing. This workshop is for photographers at all levels of experience.
March is one of the best months to photograph in Seabrook, Texas, located on The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail between Galveston and Houston. Flocks of regal White Pelicans spend their winter along the coastal area of Seabrook from October to April. Majestic trees are budding, and the coastal marshes are flush with new growth in March. Adding to the photographer’s dream location are brilliant sunrises, grandiose sunsets on the water, and the seaside character of working shrimp boats offering the fresh catch of the day.
Ruth Burke, a Seabrook resident, is internationally known for her art and photography. She has captured the Gulf Coast region with her special creative touch and has been featured in many national publications. Her works grace the walls of corporations, municipalities, restaurants, and private collectors. Not only has she portrayed the region she calls home, but her prints also include her travels to the East and West Coast in the United States, Mexico and many islands in the Caribbean. Her gallery, Seaside Gallery, also offers prints from her travels abroad to England, France, and Italy. Ruth is also a featured artist at Seabrook’s signature event, Keels & Wheels Concours d’ Elegance, held annually in May.
The two-day photo workshop event will include: classroom instructions with hand-outs, nature field trips, shooting images of vintage boats and cars at Lakewood Yacht Club and a boat ride on the bay. Optional social events are also scheduled.
Seabrook’s bird sanctuary is one of the largest migratory paths in North America and has 291 species of birds that have been identified in the diverse habitat of fresh and salt marsh, woodlands and bay shoreline. The famous waterfront Seafood Market welcomes Texans and out-of-state visitors daily. Seabrook’s lodging offers four hotels and six quaint B&B inns with numerous fine restaurants and unique shopping. The beautiful Seabrook Parks and Hike and Bike Trails and the Pelican Path project add to the many things to do in Seabrook.
Ruth Burke´s philosophy on the art of photography involves a two-step process. First, she captures the image on film or digitally. Second, she uses that image to translate her vision into a fine art print.
FEW PHOTO WORKSHOPS PROVIDE THE COMBINED INSTRUCTION OF CAPTURING AN IMAGE AND CREATING A FINE ART PRINT.
You will get to photograph on location with Ruth, and then she will show you her technique for using Photoshop to prepare your image for printing.
You will learn what to look for in your images and how to use Photoshop to prepare your image for printing. You will be able to explore printing on different materials for different visual effects.
Through photography you will discover Seabrook, our wildlife, coastal marshes, nautical landscapes with beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and our seaside character with working shrimp boats offering the local catch of the day.
Ruth will work one on one with each participant, regardless of their skill level or type of equipment, to ensure that everyone leaves the workshop with new ideas about creating a great photograph.
The instruction will include the importance of visual sensitivity and technical knowledge in creating a pleasing photograph. Discover why what you see through the viewfinder is not always what you get. Learn about correct exposures, the art of seeing, how light, composition and timing all come together to make a great photograph versus an okay photograph. Photoshop will be discussed and demonstrated with hand-outs to use as a guide when preparing your photographs for printing.
Cost per person: 1-day session $150.00 2-day session $300.00
